Goal
How to troubleshoot a reported down XSCFU.
Fix
Many of the down XSCFU issues are actually due to connectivity issues.
To troubleshoot these issues start by verifying the XSCFU is actually down using the following procedures:
LED Status:
- Collect the LED status from the XSCFU ( table 2-10 / 2-11 ) and OPNL ( tables 2-3 and 2-4 ) then compare them with tables in the System Service Manual. If there is an open case for this issue place the LED statuses in the case notes.
- If the system is not powered up then apply power to the system.
- If the system is powered up then proceed to the "Serial Port" section.
Serial Port:

- If no then skip to Network Checks.
Network Checks:
- Can we ping the XSCFU interface?
- Can we telnet / ssh to that interface from a system on the same subnet.
If we can reach the XSCFU from a system on the same subnet but not from a different subnet then the routing on the XSCFU should be checked.
- Can we log into a domain on this platform?
- If we can login to a domain then using "ifconfig -a" we should see the dscp interface "sppp0".
# ifconfig -a
lo0: flags=2001000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,VIRTUAL> mtu 8232 index 1
inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000
bge0: flags=1000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 1500 index 2
inet 10.79.250.186 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 10.79.250.255
ether 0:b:5d:dc:10:d0
sppp0: flags=10010008d1<UP,POINTOPOINT,RUNNING,NOARP,MULTICAST,IPv4,FIXEDMTU> mtu 1500 index 3
inet 192.168.224.2 --> 192.168.224.1 netmask ffffff00
ether 0
log into the XSCFU using the dscp address ( in this case 192.168.224.1 ). Check the network setting to ensure they are correct ( shownetwork -a, showroute -a, shownameserver, showssh, showtelnet ).
Network configuration information can be found in the SPARC Enterprise M3000/M4000/M5000/M8000/M9000 Servers Administration Guide
