Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1351944.1 : How to Determine the Default Display Resolution for a Sun Ray 3 Plus Client
In this Document
Created from <SR 3-4251679231> Applies to:Sun Ray Hardware - Version Sun Ray 3Plus and laterSun Ray Software - Version SRS 5.0 and later Information in this document applies to any platform. GoalIs there a "default" resolution that may be expected for the stand-alone Sun Ray 3 Plus Client, and how is that resolution determined?
FixSummarySun Ray Clients without a built-in monitor do not have a preferred "default" resolution. The device communicates with the display to determine the preferred resolution for that display. Note: This value may be overridden with the utresadm setting, which should be used with care.
SpecificsOn start-up, the Sun Ray Client exchanges DDC/EDID data with the attached display to determine the best timing (resolution and refresh) for the display itself, and compares this value to those that it can support until a suitable resolution is agreed upon. Note: If the DDC/EDID communication between Sun Ray and the attached display fails--specifically, that no usable timings are discovered--the Sun Ray Client will use the meager fallback resolution. In that scenario, the utresadm tool can be used to force the use of a selected (better) resolution for a specific physical client (or client/token combination). Here, the administrator must take care to choose a timing that the monitor supports.
