How to Remove and Replace a Ultra 40 M2 Workstation Hard Disk Drive

Solution

- TIME ESTIMATE:  30 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW: How to Remove and Replace a Ultra 40 M2 Workstation HDD
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: OS gracefully shut down and the system powered off.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Power off the system, open and position the chassis, and remove the access panel.

I. Power off and disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, network connections, and any peripherals.
II. Disconnect the power cord from the workstation.
III. Press down the two latches on the side cover and lift the cover off the workstation.
IV. Using both hands, place the workstation on its side.
V. Pivot the workstation support leg underneath the workstation.
VI. Remove the access panel:
a. Slide the lock block to the front of the system.
b. Press and release the two latches and lift the access panel.
VII. Attach the antistatic wrist strap.
VIII. If your procedure requires it, lift the fan module up and out.
IX. Find the removal or replacement procedure you need.

Removing a Hard Drive

1. Slide the hard drive release tab toward the front of the system.
2. Grasp the hard drive handle and pull the hard drive out of the hard drive bay.
3. Place the hard drive aside on an antistatic mat.

Installing a Hard Drive

Caution - Use proper ESD grounding techniques when handling components. Wear an antistatic wrist strap and use an antistatic mat. Store ESD-sensitive components in antistatic bags before placing them on any surface.
1. Remove the new hard drive from its packaging.
2. Install the hard drive.
3. Slide the hard drive into the hard drive bay.
4. Close the latch on the hard drive until it clicks and is secure.
5. If you are finished working, install the side cover and the access panel, power on the system, and verify the installation.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Power on the system, and verify the installation.
