GoalHow to Remove and Replace a X2100 System BatterySolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: Nothing beyond basic hardware and Solaris training - TIME ESTIMATE: 90 minutes - TASK COMPLEXITY: 0 FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS: - PROBLEM OVERVIEW: How to Remove and Replace a X2100 System Battery - WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: Caution - Removing the battery causes the server to revert to the factory default BIOS settings, regardless of how the server boot options have been set up using the System Setup Utility or the BIOS setup. Caution - Do not attempt to open or service batteries. The battery contains lithium and can explode if not properly used, handled, or disposed of. - WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: Powering Off the server and Removing the Cover.
I. If the operating system (OS) is running, perform a shutdown of the OS, and then press and release the platform power button on the front panel. II. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the system. III. Disconnect the AC power on the back panel of the server. IV. Label and disconnect all peripheral cables and all telecommunication lines connected to I/O connectors or ports on the back panel of the system. V. Before handling components, attach a wrist strap to a chassis ground (any unpainted metal surface). VI. Loosen the two captive screws securing the cover to the chassis VII. Pull the cover slightly toward the back of the server and then straight up to remove it. VIII. Lift the cover and remove it. Removing the System BatteryI. Pry the battery out of the system with a screwdriverCaution - Do not dispose of the battery with regular waste. Discard used batteries according to the manufacturer's instructions or contact your local waste-disposal agency for the location of the nearest battery deposit site. Installing the System BatteryI. Insert the new system battery into the holder with the side labeled "+" facing upwards.Note - Replace the battery only with the identical model. II. Check the routing of all cables for obstructions. III. Install the cover.
