GoalHow to Remove and Replace V440 Power CordSolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONSWHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?) Nothing beyond basic partner training to be qualified as a Sun Service Delivery Partner. TIME ESTIMATE: 15 minutes TASK COMPLEXITY: 0 FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Power Cord failed. WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution. The customer is not required to perform a system shutdown. The Sun Fire V440 server has dual redundant power supplies each with its own power cord. You can swap one power cord while the other one is still running. For a single power source configuration, the system should be already powered down. WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: Replace the bad power cord. WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: If the replacement was a hot swap on a redundant configuration, the system should be operational and need no further work. If the replacement was in a system with a single power source, restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
