Goal

How to Remove and Replace a X4170/X4270 Fan Board

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty Fan Power Board
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Power off the server and disconnect the power cord (or cords) from the power
supply (or supplies).
Note ! If you are removing the fan power boards to access the paddle card or
storage drive cage, you must remove the server from the rack.
2. Remove the top cover.
3. Remove the fan modules.
Note ! The server has two fan power boards. If you are replacing a defective fan
power board, remove only the fan modules that are necessary to remove the
defective fan power board.
4. Remove the Phillips screw that secures the fan power board to the chassis
5. Slide the fan power board to the left to disengage it from the paddle card.
6. Remove the fan power board from the system and place it on an antistatic mat.

Installation is the reverse of the above procedure

Power On

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Check for full system functionality
