Goal

How to Remove and Replace a X4170/X4270 Fan Module

Fix

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: No specific training required
- TIME ESTIMATE: 15 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Failed/Faulty Fan Module

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
The fan module is hot swappable.
Caution: Leaving the fan module door open for longer than 60 seconds may cause the server to overheat and shutdown.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Open the fan module door/cover by pulling the release tabs
2. Identify the faulty fan by the Service Action required LED for that fan module
3. Grasp the fan module using thumb and forefinger and remove from the system (DO NOT rock the module back and forth whilst removing)
4. Install the replacement fan module into the slot ensuring correct orientation. Ensure it is fully seated and the LED is not lit
5. Close the fan module door/cover
6. Verify Service LEDs are not lit


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Verify functionality
