FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Power off the server and disconnect the power cord (or cords) from the power supply (or supplies).
2. Slide the server out of the rack.
3. Remove the top cover.
4. Untwist the cable tie downs to release the SAS cable(s).
5. To disconnect the cables from the host bus adapter (HBA) PCIe card, depress the latch, push in toward the connector, and then pull out to remove the cable(s).
6. To disconnect each cable at the storage drive backplane, press the latch, push in toward the connector, and then pull out to remove the cable.
Note ! Removing the cable might be made easier by removing one or more fan modules first.
7. Remove the cables from the chassis.
Re-Install in X4170
1. To reinstall SAS cables 0-3 and 4-7 in a SunFire X4170 Server install the disk 0-3 cable first. This connector is on the left from the front of the unit.
2. Route the cable down and in front of the fan board(s), to prevent the cable from blocking the airflow.
Route the cable through the opening in the midwall, opposite the other disk backplane connector.
3. Plug the cable connector into the connector on the HBA card that is closest to the gold fingers (port 0).
4. Now install the disk 4-7 cable.
5. Plug the backplane connector(s) into the storage drive backplane.
6. Plug the cable connector into the connector on the HBA card that is farthest to the gold fingers (port 1).
7. Press the cables in the cable tie downs, and then secure the cable tie downs.
8. Re-install the fans
Re-Install in X4270
1. Install the cable connector into the storage drive backplane.
The connector is on the right from the front of the unit.
2. Route the cable down and in front of the fan board to prevent the cable from blocking the airflow.
Route the cable through the opening in the midwall, opposite the other disk backplane connector.
3. Plug the cable connector into the connector closest to the gold fingers (port 0) on the HBA card.
4. Re-install the fans
1. Install the top cover.
2. Install the server into the rack.
3. Power on
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Check for full system functionality
If this is an Exadata System, please perform the following steps:
1. After replacing a failed component, the Field Engineer should remain onsite until the system is back to full operational status. You must obtain customer acceptance and/or determine what actions should be taken to return the system to an operational state if still down. If there is any issue, you are to assist the Customer in getting the right resource engaged and must update the TSC (HW Support Group) with the current system status.
2. The EEST engineer will inform the customer and provide an action plan to bring the system back up to fully operational status. The Field Engineer, are not required to stay onsite until resolution, but you are requested to facilitate a resource if necessary.
