Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: Basic Netra 440 Training
- TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Failed Power Supply

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
If single power supply configuration or both in dual power supply are failed system should be down & powered off.
If a dual supply system in which one is failed, one can use Hotplug replacement & system need not be shut down, but operational precautions such as data protection or user notification may be necessary to comply w/ customer operational guidelines.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Cold replacement:
1 Take appropriate ESD procedures
2 Identify power supply to be removed
3 Pull out power supply in smooth motion until free of bay
4 Align new power supply with its bay

5 Slide new power supply into power supply bay until power supply connectors start to engage connectors on motherboard

6 Push firmly on front of power supply to engage power supply connectors with motherboard connectors
7 For systems with older ALOM firmware (prior revision 1.5.4), the replacement power supply must be enabled with ALOM command: poweron PS# where # corresponds to the power supply that was replaced.

Hot-plug replacement:
NOTE - You have limited time to perform power supply hot-plug operation. You
have 10 minutes @ sea level & a maximum of 7 minutes @ 10,000 feet (3048
meters) to ensure proper system cooling. Do not remove failed supply nor begin the Hotplug procedure unless you have replacement part available for immediate insertion.
1 Take appropriate ESD procedures
2 Identify power supply to be removed

3 Type following ALOM command: sc> removefru PS# (where # corresponds to the PSU to be replaced)
CAUTION - Do not remove a PSU from a running system until PSU OK-to-Remove LED is lit
4 Pull out power supply in a smooth motion until free of bay
5 Align new power supply with its bay
6 Slide new power supply into power supply bay until power supply connectors start to engage connectors on motherboard
7 Push firmly on front of power supply to engage power supply connectors with motherboard connectors

8 For systems with older ALOM firmware (prior revision 1.5.4), the replacement power supply must be enabled with ALOM command: poweron PS# where # corresponds to the power supply that was replaced.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
For successful hot-plug replacement, none
For successful cold replacement, boot system & start applications
