Goal

This document is intended to help customers identify the correct serial number to use, when opening a new Service Request for the ZFS Storage Appliance or S7000 series NAS systems. This will ensure that the SR is routed to the correct support team and initial SR response time is minimized for the customer.

To discuss this information further with Oracle experts and industry peers, we encourage you to review, join or start a discussion in the My Oracle Support Community - 7000 Series ZFS Appliances

Solution

When opening a new Service Request for the ZFS Storage Appliance (S7xxx NAS) product, please use the serial number of the storage controller (not the serial number of an attached J44xx device).  For an S7xxx Cluster configuration, the serial number of either storage controller (server) can be used.  Using the correct serial number will prevent delays during initial SR assignment.

The ZFS Storage Appliance serial number can be found
  1. On the back of the server (controller) which manages the JBOD array stack
  2. Via the appliance BUI by selecting Maintenance -> Hardware tab
  3. From the appliance CLI by issuing Maintenance -> Hardware -> Show, obtaining the serial number from the chassis-000 line.

If you cannot find the serial number of the storage controller(s) listed under your Customer Service Identifier (CSI), please open a non-technical Service Request and request the serial numbers be added.
