DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Sun Ultra 40 Product Knowledge/Training

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

*FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS*

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Memory failure.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

This is a cold swap procedure. The customer or administrator should shutdown the system and power it off. Note: System serial number is located on the left side when facing the system and on the rear of the chassis.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Follow ESD precautions by using a wrist strap and an anti static mat.

1. Power off the system, open and position the chassis (If you have to remove cables label them first.),  and remove the access panel.

2. Open the memory cooler (Ultra 40 M2 Only).
     a. Squeeze the latch until it releases.
     b. Raise the housing to expose the DIMMs.

3. Identify the DIMM to be replaced. If you replace a single DIMM make sure it is identical to the DIMM you removed. Release the DIMM by simultaneously pressing down on both ejector levers at the ends of the DIMM slot.

4. Lift the DIMM straight out of the DIMM slot.

5. Set the DIMM aside on an antistatic mat.

6. Repeat Step 3 through Step 5 until you have removed all relevant DIMMs.

7. Review the recommended DIMM installation and configurations before installing the DIMM. If replacing a single DIMM make sure the replacement is identical to the DIMM being removed.

8. Using both thumbs, press the DIMM straight down into the DIMM connector slot until both ejector levers close, locking the DIMM in the DIMM connector slot.

9. Verify that the DIMM ejector levers are upright, seated, and tight.

10. Close the memory cooler (Ultra 40 M2 only).

11. Install the side cover and the access panel, reattach any cables that you removed, power on the system, and verify the installation.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
