How to Replace a Sun Ultra 27 Workstation Removable Media

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Sun Ultra 27 Product Knowledge/Training

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

DELIVERY REQUIREMENT:
Schedule for immediate delivery within contractual terms.

*FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS*

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Removable Media failure.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

N/A

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Remove any media in the DVD drive.

2. Power off the workstation.

3. Remove the left-side access panel.

4. Disconnect the cables from the back of the DVD drive.

5. Push the drive retaining lever tab up to release the retaining hooks.

6. Slide the DVD drive out from the front of the chassis.

7. Ensure that the DVD retaining lever is in the upward or disengaged position.

8. Insert the new DVD drive into the vacant DVD housing from the front of the workstation.

9. Align the locking holes in the side of the DVD drive with the slotted holes in the in the side of the DVD housing.

10. To engage the retaining hooks and lock the DVD, pull firmly downward on the green retaining clip handle.

11. Verify that the drive is secured with the retaining hooks by pulling on the front of the DVD.

12. Connect the SATA, power, and jumper cables to the back of the DVD drive

13. Connect the SATA, power, and jumper cables to the back of the DVD drive

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
