How to Replace a Sun Ultra 27 Memory Module

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Sun Ultra 27 Product Knowledge/Training

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

*FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS*

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Memory Module failure.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

The customer should conduct an orderly software and system shutdown.
System power off is required.


WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:


Replace DIMM(s) located at:  <place DIMM location>

PROCEDURE:

1. Re-check the Part Number for the new DIMM.

2. Power off the workstation.

3. Remove the left-side access panel.

4. Gently lay the system on its right side on a stable, nonslip surface.

5. Identify the location from which you will remove a DIMM.

6. Confirm the Part Number of the DIMM that will be replaced.

7. To remove a DIMM press down on the ejector levers at both ends of the DIMM socket.

8. Lift the DIMM and set it aside on an antistatic surface.

9. Remove the new DIMM from the antistatic packaging.

10. Ensure that the locking tabs are rotated to the open position.

11. Align the DIMM with the proper slot.

12. Press both ends of the DIMM downward into the slot until both locking levers click into place.

13. Ensure that both locking levers are in the fully upright and locked position.

14. Repeat the above steps for each DIMM that you want to replace.

15. Close the system.

16. Boot the workstation and watch the boot messages on the monitor.

17. When the BIOS prompt appears press F2.

18. Use the Memory Configuration screen to verify that the total amount of memory installed in the workstation is seen by the system.


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
