Solution

CAP PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
How to Remove and Replace a X2100 M2 FAN

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED?
Nothing beyond basic hardware and Solaris training

Task Complexity: 0

Time Estimate: 30 minutes

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

Powering Off the server and Removing the Cover.

I. If the operating system (OS) is running, perform a shutdown of the OS, and then press and release the platform power button on the front panel.
II. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the system.
III. Disconnect the AC power on the back panel of the server.
IV. Label and disconnect all peripheral cables and all telecommunication lines connected to I/O connectors or ports on the back panel of the system.
V. Before handling components, attach a wrist strap to a chassis ground (any unpainted metal surface).
VI. Loosen the two captive screws securing the cover to the chassis
VII. Pull the cover slightly toward the back of the server and then straight up to remove it.
VIII. Lift the cover and remove it.

Removing the Fan

I. Pull the fan upward to remove it.
II. Unplug the fan's power connector from the connector on the fan harness.

Installing the Fan

I. Position the fan so that the arrow on top of the fan casing is facing the middle chassis divider.
II. Place the fan in the chassis so that it fits over the small guideposts.
III. Gently push the fan down to secure it to the chassis.
IV. Connect the fan connector to the appropriate connector on the fan harness.
Note - Note exactly which motherboard connector to which the fan was connected. If you connect a fan to an incorrect connector, the SP cannot correctly identify a fan failure.
V. Check the routing of all cables for obstructions, and then reinstall the cover.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM
TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?
