How to Remove and Replace a X2100 M2 PCI Express Riser

Solution

    How to Remove and Replace a X2100 M2 PCI Express Riser

2. WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED?
    Nothing beyond basic hardware and Solaris training

3. Task Complexity: 0 = CRU

4. Time Estimate: 60 minutes

5. WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

Powering Off the server and Removing the Cover.

  I. If the operating system (OS) is running, perform a shutdown of the OS, and then press and release the  platform power button on the front panel.
 II. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the system.
III. Disconnect the AC power on the back panel of the server.
IV. Label and disconnect all peripheral cables and all telecommunication lines connected to I/O connectors or ports on the back panel of the system.
V. Before handling components, attach a wrist strap to a chassis ground (any unpainted metal surface).
VI. Loosen the two captive screws securing the cover to the chassis
VII. Pull the cover slightly toward the back of the server and then straight up to remove it.
VIII. Lift the cover and remove it.

Removing the Riser Assembly and PCIe Card

 I. Placing your fingers on the two green areas on the riser card, pull the assembly upward and out of the chassis.
II. Unlatch the PCIe card and remove the card from the PCIe card riser assembly connector.

Installing the PCIe Card and Riser Card Assembly

I. If necessary, remove the riser card filler panel.
II. Connect the new PCIe in the riser assembly and fasten the latch to secure it.

TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?
