How to Replace a Sun Fire X2250 System Battery

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
Nothing beyond basic partner training to be qualified as a Sun Service Delivery Partner.

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

DELIVERY REQUIREMENT:
Schedule for immediate replacement within contractual terms.

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

The customer should conduct an orderly software and system shutdown.
System power off is required.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Power off the system and remove the cover.

2. If a PCI-Express card is installed in your server, remove the card.

3. Remove the system battery by gently pulling the clip away from the side of the battery and sliding the battery out of the battery holder.

4. Insert the new system battery into the battery holder with the side labeled “+” facing upward.

5. Reinstall the PCI-Express card.

6. Check the routing of all cables for obstructions and then reinstall the cover.

Note: The ILOM clock jumps at default after replace System battery.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Apply power to the system.
Once the ILOM is booted, log in.
Start the console and monitor the POST and boot process to ensure that the replacement process has been successful.
