How to Replace a SPARC T3-2 DVD Drives

Solution

CAP PROBLEM OVERVIEW: SPARC T3-2 Server, DVD Drives replacing.

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

The components that require the server to be powered
down. These components can be replaced by customers.

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
Solaris Basic knowledge.

Time Estimate: 60 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Prepare for servicing:

a. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
b. Remove any media from the drive.
c. Power off the server and unplug power cords from the power supplies.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Remove and Install DVD Drivers

For Removing

1. Push down on the latch on the top left corner of the DVD drive or filler panel.
2. Slide the DVD drive or filler panel out of the server.

Caution: Whenever you remove the DVD drive or filler panel, you should replace it with another DVD drive or a filler panel; otherwise the server might overheat due to improper airflow.

For Installing-

1. Unpack the DVD drive or filler panel. If it is a DVD drive, attach an antistatic wrist wrap and place the drive on an antistatic mat.
2. Slide the DVD drive or filler panel into the front of the chassis until it seats.
3. Return the server to operation:
a. Return the server to the normal rack position.
b. Reinstall the power cords to the power supplies and power on the server.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Verify functionality, no service LEDs or messages.
