FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

** Remove the Rear I/O Module
The rear I/O module is a cold-service component that can be replaced by a customer.
1. Take the necessary ESD precautions.

2. Locate the failed rear I/O module.

3. Power off the server.

4. Label the cables connected to the ports on the rear I/O module, then disconnect the cables from the ports. You will reconnect the cables to the same ports on the replacement rear I/O module.

5. Press the green button on the rear I/O module ejection lever and lower the lever slightly.

6. Lower the lever completely to unseat the rear I/O module, and then pull the module away from the server to remove it.

** Install the Rear I/O Module

1. Take the necessary ESD precautions.

2. With the lever in the lowered position, insert the rear I/O module into the slot at the rear of the server.

3. Raise the extraction lever up until it clicks into place, fully seating the rear I/O module into the server.

4. Connect the cables to the appropriate ports on the rear I/O module.

5. Power on the server.

6. Verify the rear I/O module functionality.

** Verify Rear I/O Module Functionality
1. Verify that the System Service Required LED on the rear I/O module is not lit.

2.  If Step 1 indicated that no faults have been detected, then the rear I/O module has been replaced successfully. No further action is required.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
   * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
   * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
