SolutionSun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System: How to Apply Deferred UpdatesFrom time to time a new version of the appliance kit may contain updates which will upgrade the version of your zpools in order to be able to offer new features. When a zpool has been upgraded attempting to revert back to a previous version may result in undefined behaviour. To prevent this the zpool upgrade is not done by default during an upgrade of the appliance kit. Instead you will be given an option to install this automatically during the upgrade, or at a later date. Hence these updates are known as a deferred updates. Deferred updates are not always just zpool version upgrades, other parts of the software stack that may prove problematical to roll back from may be delivered in deferred updates. A list of deferred updates delivered in appliance kit versions so far can be found here: https://wikis.oracle.com/display/FishWorks/Deferred+Updates Apply via BUI If you elect not to apply deferred updates during an upgrade this gives you an opportunity to make sure that the rest of the software is functional after the upgrade and to decide whether you then need to roll back or not. You can apply the deferred updates at any time after the upgrade by simply going to the "maintenance -> system -> updates" view. A list of the deferred updates available will be shown beneath the appliance kit version, each will have an "APPLY" button next to them, clicking this will apply all the available updates. Apply via CLI To see a list of available deferred updates use: nas:> maintenance system updates show If there are any they can then be applied with: nas:> maintenance system updates apply Cluster In the case of a cluster deferred updates must be applied whilst both heads are operational. However zpools will only be available to one head at a time so in the case where there are pools active on both heads you must check the list of available deferred updates on each head and apply the available list on each. Replication Replication will not work across deferred updates. After a deferred update has been applied it will not be possible to replicate to a system with an earlier replication stream format.
