Goal

Information on Hardware Activation Files for SL8500.

Solution

What:
- New files for activating library features.
- Files are customer downloadable / installable.
(Note: service can help install, but cannot download)
- One file per feature, ex. 1000 slot upgrade is one file and partitioning is another file.

Why:
- Replaces SILKS files; very limited support for the SL8500 in the past.

When:
- SL8500 will launch files @ Code 7.01
- SILKS will EOL by the end of 2011

The SL8500 will grandfather already enabled features into 7.01 After the first hwactivation file is downloaded and installed the library will enforce the new schema for SL8500 feature support.

- Example customer is using Dual TCP/IP and the customer downloads and installs the partitioning hwactivation file. He must then also download and install the Dual TCP/IP hwactivation file.

- Customer purchased 8000 slots last year with a physical capacity of 10,000 slots. They purchased an additional 2000 slots. The customer must download and install 10 1000 slot hwactivation files to use 10,000 slots after upgrading to 7.01.

To access the hardware activation files, go to Oracle’s E-delivery Site at: http://edelivery.oracle.com/
Within the e-delivery site:
• Choose Product: Oracle StorageTek Products
• Choose Platform: Generic Platform
• Select the StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System Hardware Activation Files and choose the appropriate file(s) for the feature(s) purchased.

NOTE: Only customers can download the files, but Services / Sales can help install.

Audit report is available via SL Console to track and log features enabled and disabled; example report below:
