PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
One or both Write Cache Batteries have been determined as failed
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Verify that the battery is ready to remove. In the GUI the battery will show as "Failed", "Over temperature", or "Requires Replacement" .
DO NOT REPLACE if the battery is nearing expiration, or expired. Reset the battery age.
If the status of the battery is different contact your Sun Service provider or your next level of support.
2. Remove the Battery Cover plate at the front of the controller module. The Blue Service Action Allowed LED should be lit, but only if the battery is expired or failed. Nearing Expiration batteries are not failed, but can be removed without damage the system.
3. Remove the battery from the interconnect assembly. Left Battery is A, right is B. Grasp the flange to slide the battery pack from the interconnect-battery assembly.
4. To install the new battery pack, carefully position the battery pack to ensure that the battery pack will slide straight back and correctly into the interconnect-battery assembly. Slide the battery pack into the interconnect-battery assembly. Push the battery pack firmly into the interconnect-battery assembly to ensure that the battery pack completely engages with the connectors in the interconnect-battery assembly.
5. Reinstall the battery access cover using all four thumb screws. Be sure the gasket is in place.
6. The battery age must now be reset. In the GUI click on the "Fan/Battery/View" icon next to the controller tray. Click on the battery link on the left side of the window. Now click on the "Reset" button next to the batteries that have been replaced. Verify the age has been reset properly.
Note - If the battery is new it will take a few hours (up to 14 hours) for it to charge which means cache will be disabled until then.
