FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
One or both Write Cache Batteries have been determined as failed or nearing expiration, by the system.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

  1. Log into Common Array Manager (CAM) and verify that the battery is Failed, Expired, or Nearing Expiration
  2. Follow the Battery Location, Removal and Replacement instructions in the CAM Service Advisor (SA) for the array.

NOTE: There may be instructions in the SA that stay not to remove the battery if the Blue LED on the battery is NOT LIT. These can be ignored, if the alarm is for the battery Nearing Expiration. This will not invalidate the warranty.
  3. Verify that the battery is charging, then repeat for the other battery as needed.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN
OPERATIONAL STATE:

  1. Verify that the battery age has been reset for each battery replaced.
  2. Verify that the alarms for battery have been removed from the alarms list - this may take up to 5 minutes.
  3. Notify the customer that while the battery is charging cache will be suspended and could take up to 14 hours before the battery is fully charged and cache is restored.
