FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
This server is equipped with redundant hot-swappable power supplies. With redundant power supplies, you can remove and replace a power supply without shutting the server down.
NOTE: Never replace a 2nd Edition PSU with a 1st Edition PSU. For more information, please refer to the appropriate product in the Sun System Handbook . The 2nd Edition PSUs will include "2nd Edition" in the part description, "1st Edition" will not.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
These instructions use the AC server models as examples.
However, unless noted otherwise, the instructions also apply to the DC server models.
1. Move to the rear of the server chassis so you can view the power supply status LEDs
2. (Optional) You can verify the status indicated by the Fault LED by running the ILOM show faulty command
3. Locate and release the cable management arm (CMA)
4. Based on the model of your server (AC or DC), remove power from the server in one of the following ways:
AC server models - Disconnect the power cord from the faulty power supply
DC server models - Turn off the power using the circuit breaker on the power source. The Wago (DC) connector is not a service disconnect, and should only be disconnected after the power source circuit breaker is turned off
5. Grasp the power supply handle and press the release latch
6. Pull the power supply out of the chassis
7. Align the replacement power supply with the empty power supply chassis bay and slide the power supply into the bay until it is fully seated
8. Based on the model of your server (AC or DC), apply power to the power supply in one of the following ways:
AC server models - Connect the power cord to the power supply
DC server models - Connect Wago connector and turn on the power using the circuit breaker at the power source
9. Verify that the PSU OK LED is lighted.
10. Close the CMA, inserting the end of the CMA into the rear left rail bracket.
11. Verify that the Fault LED on the replaced power supply, the system Power Supply Fault LED, and the front and rear Service Required LEDs are off
12. At the ALOM CMT sc> prompt, type the show environment command to verify the status of the power supplies
