WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
Nothing beyond basic partner training to be qualified as a Sun Service Delivery Partner

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

Task Complexity: 0

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:  PCIe/XAUI card failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
System needs to be shutdown by customer

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
*** Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge

1. Power off the server
2. Disconnect all power cables
3. Disconnect any data cables connected to the PCIe/XAUI card being serviced
4. Remove the Top Cover (On SPARC Enterprise)
-Unlatch the fan module door by pulling the release tabs back to release the door
-Press the top cover release button and slide the top cover to the rear about a 0.5 inch
-Lift up and remove the cover
5. If not Netra PCI cards 3-5 go to step 8.
6. Unloosen the screw to the PCI card edge lock(s), lotate them away from the card, & then remove the failed card.
7. Insert the replacement card in appropriate location & then move the green PCI card edge arm(s) to support the edge away from the connector & tighten the locking screws.  Then reverse steps 4-1.
8. Remove the PCI cross beam on the SPARC Enterprise.  Loosen the two captive Phillips screws on each end of the removable PCI cross beam then slide the PCI cross beam back to remove it from the chassis.  On the Netra, remove the PCI Mezzanine.
9. Loosen the captive screw securing the riser board to the motherboard
10. Remove the riser and the PCIe/XAUI card attached to it as a unit
11. Carefully remove the PCIe/XAUI card from the riser board connector
12. Place the PCIe/XAUI card on an antistatic mat
13. Insert the new PCIe/XAUI card into the riser board
14. After replacing reverse the order of fixing as mentioned in above points

NOTE: to verify functionality of the system:

1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and/or SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (run "showfaults -v" command if only ALOM is supported ) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
   * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
   * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Customer might need to consult the PCIe/XAUI card specific manual for procedure to bring the card into operation
