Goal

How to Replace the Sun Blade X6250 REM Battery.

Fix

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
This component is a CRU and can be replaced by anyone.

DELIVERY REQUIREMENT:
This operation requires a complete power outage of the entire machine.

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Shut down the server

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1.- Power off the server and remove the server module from the chassis.

2.- Remove the main cover.

3.- Remove the Sun Blade RAID 5 Expansion Module, as described here: https://sunspace.sfbay.sun.com/display/STOTSCSTQ/X6250+RAID+Expansion+Module

4.- Remove the battery

* Turn the Sun Blade REM board over. (The battery is located underneath the REM board)
* Disconnect the battery cable from the Sun Blade REM
* Remove the four screws that secure the battery to the Sun Blade REM board
* Note the polarity of the battery as you will need to put the new battery in with the same polarity.
* Lift the battery away from the Sun Blade REM board

5.- Install the new battery:

* Attach the battery to the Sun Blade REM using the four screws
* Connect the cable on the battery to the connector on the Sun Blade REM

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart the server
