TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

1. Take ESD Precautions.
2. The replacement disk drive must be the same capacity and same type as the disk drive it is replacing.
3. Never remove a disk drive unless the ID/Status LED is blue.
4. The disks are hot-swappable and you do not need to disconnect power from the system.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Removing

1. Locate the failed disk drive(The Activity LED is off and the ID/Status LED is blue). If you remove an active disk drive accidentally, wait at least 30 seconds before reinserting it.
2. Press the release button in and to the right to release the disk ejection lever.
3. Pull the disk ejection lever fully open to unlock and partially eject the disk drive from the tray.
4. Grasp the middle of the disk drive body and pull it toward you to remove it from the tray.

Replacing

1. Ensure the disk ejection lever is in the fully extended position.
2. Slide the drive into the disk tray.
3. Push the disk drive into the tray slot until the disk ejection lever engages the tray connectors and begins to swing closed.
4. Press the disk ejection lever closed until it locks in place to seat the drive and lock it into the tray.
5. Verify the Activity LED is steady green.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:


PARTS NOTE:

Disk Drive firmware on newly replaced drives, may be at a revision level greater than the baseline level reported in Common Array Manager.
This may generate an alarm and degraded state as a result. There should be no actions taken to downgrade the disk drive firmware.
