DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
T2000 knowledge/training recommended, but not required.
TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Memory failure
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Shutting System Down
2. Extending Server to Maintenance Position
3. Performing Electrostatic Discharge Prevention Measures
4. Disconnecting Power From Server
5. Removing Top Cover
6. Removing Front Bezel & Top Front Cover (Sun Fire only).
7. Locate DIMM that you want to replace.
8. Note the DIMM locations so you can install replacement DIMMs in same sockets.
9. Push down on ejector levers on each side of DIMM connector until DIMM is released.
10. Grasp top corners of faulty DIMM and remove it from system.
11. Place DIMMs on antistatic mat.
12. Unpackage replacement DIMMs and place on antistatic mat.
13. Ensure that connector ejector tabs are in open position.
14. Line up replacement DIMM with connector.
15. Push DIMM into connector until ejector tabs lock the DIMM in place.
16. Place top front cover on chassis.
17. Slide front top cover forward until it snaps into place (Sun Fire only)
18. Position bezel on front of chassis and snap it into place. (Sun Fire only)
19. Open fan door. (Sun Fire only)
20. Tighten captive screw to secure front bezel to chassis. (Sun Fire only)
21. Place top front cover on chassis. Slide front top cover forward until it snaps into place, being careful to avoid catching cover on intrusion switch.
22. Perform the following steps to verify the repair:
a. Set the virtual keyswitch to diag so that POST will run in Service mode
b. Issue the poweron command.
c. Switch to the system console to view POST output.
d. Return the virtual keyswitch to normal mode.
e. Gain access to the ALOM CMT sc> prompt.
f. Run the showfaults command.
g. Run the clearfault command (for each UUID reported in 'showfaults')
h. Switch to the system console.
Issue the fmadm repair command with the UUID. Use the same UUID that you used with the clearfault command.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
* If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
* If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
PARTS NOTE: Refer to the System Handbook for the specific size of DIMM.
