GoalSL500 - How to Resolve RLM Card Problems in Library.SolutionPROBLEM OVERVIEW:No robotics movement in library. Service required light is on. Customer has reported the library is not functional or moving tapes. Library should be offline to application & OS. The RLM card is difficult to diagnose. Troubleshooting is needed to identify a problem associated with this assembly. 1. Is library communicating through op panel or CLI? No: Library is likely faulty. Restart system to establish an operator panel or CLI session. Yes: Continue 2. Does library log have error entries? No: Site configuration, host, or network is likely faulty. Check library & host logs for configuration activity. Run site network & connectivity tests. Note - StreamLine error log entries indicate an unrecoverable fault. This means that job that host requested could not be completed, resulting in an error log entry. Other faults, such as retry operations due to mechanism errors, are logged at a warning severity. Yes: Continue 3. Does library log have error entries associated with host fault? No: Site configuration, host, or network is likely faulty. Yes: Library is faulty. Determine which library FRU is faulty by locating FRU problems in logs: a. Finding first error log entry associated with FRU & fault. b. Getting activity & result information from log entry. Determine current operational state of FRU using op panel or CLI: - If current state is "online," fault was transient & FRU is still functioning in library. - If current state is anything else, FRU requires operator intervention for fault resolution. Did a transient mechanism failure occur? Mechanism failures are recorded in library log. Mechanism FRU is "online" after transient failure, but history of failure is recorded. Did a permanent mechanism failure occur? Mechanism FRU is not "online" after a permanent failure & mechanism fails further diagnostics or attempts to make FRU operational. Likely resolution activities include: -Run diagnostic tests to verify faults and/or reset FRU. -Update FW (library or tape drive). - Review symptoms and solutions that have occurred in Knowledge Data Base for possible resolution to problem being seen. - Replace FRU when directed by TSC Refer to Replaceable Parts Catalog. - Verify FRU initialization & "online" state. - Run diagnostic tests to verify normal operation. PARTS NOTE: Before replacing RLM, follow shut down instructions per Parts Replacement Manual PN96120 to capture configuration data from RLM. See Solution 1019641.1 or 1013985.1.
