Serial Number

How to determine the serial number of an Exadata InfiniBand (IB) switch( NM2-36 IB switch, Part Number 602-4897-01)?

Fix

Steps to Follow

There are currently no commands which can be run on a NM2-36 IB switch which will return the serial number of the box.

The serial numbers which come back from these various commands are the serial numbers of either the switch motherboard or Kontron module. Neither of these match the label on the unit.

Switch Motherboard:

showfruinfo

Kontron Module:

CheckSWProfile.sh -S

Most InfiniBand switches will have a short (4 inches) tab at the rear of the unit which contains the system serial number.  It should be a small white tab, to the left of the left power supply but inside of the chassis itself.
You can pull it out and read the serial numner (SN) from there.
Do not pull the module out more than 4 inches or of 10cm as you may inflict damage:

Please notice that these Exadata NM2-36 IB switches (SUNDC SWITCH IB-36P MANAGED) are now being stamped with "AK" in the middle of the serial number.  This can make it hard to distinguish them from the rack serial number (aka the Master Serial Number), which also have "AK" in the middle.
