Goal

I have a customer that has a physical partition on their SL8500. They want to use logical partitioning on one of their physical partitions and they are asking if they have to go to ACSLS 8.0 to do this.

As part of this setup, we have found a need to logically partition our TMS physical partition to isolate our Tivoli 5.5 environment from our Tivoli 6.2 environment.   The ACSLS is currently running down level at version 7.x.   The documentation says that to do logical partitioning, version 8 software is required, with a GUI interface.

Fix

ACSLS Logical Partitioning Requirements.
Any portion of the ACSLS physical library configuration can be presented to SCSI clients as a logical library that can behave as a target device on the SAN. A logical library, in reality, is a defined parcel of a physical SL8500 or SL3000 with specific user-assigned resources including tape drives and volumes. Logical libraries are exposed to client application software by means of a SCSI (fibre-attached) interface.

ACSLS Logical Partitions Require:
A Solaris server running ACSLS version 8.x or greater.  (See ACSLS version 8.x Release notes for server requirements).
A dedicated Fibre port on the ACSLS server is required to operate in target mode for client communication to logical libraries.  An eligible physical SL3000 or SL8500 library.  SL3000 and SL8500 are the only supported libraries.

Java 1.6 U14 is required to run the necessary partitioning graphic user interface.

Additionally, client software compatibility with logical partitioning should be verified by visiting the ACSLS Onestop page.
