Goal

To provide guidance on collecting analytics data for troubleshooting iSCSI performance issues. To review the system's iSCSI performance and any problems associated with it, collecting the following statistics from analytics will be useful. These are top level statistics, an Oracle Support engineer may request more specific statistics as and when understanding of the problem deepens.

To discuss this information further with Oracle experts and industry peers, we encourage you to review, join or start a discussion in the My Oracle Support Community - 7000 Series ZFS Appliances

Fix

Statistics to collect:

CPU: percent utilization
Cache: ARC accesses per second broken down by hit/miss
Cache: L2ARC accesses per second broken down by hit/miss
Disk: Disks broken down by percent utilization
Disk: I/O operations per second broken down by disk
Disk: I/O bytes per second broken down by disk
Network: interface bytes per second broken down by interface
Protocol: iSCSI bytes per second
Protocol: iSCSI operations per second
Protocol: iSCSI bytes per second broken down by LUN
Protocol: iSCSI operations per second broken down by LUN
Protocol: iSCSI operations per second broken down by size
Protocol: iSCSI operations per second broken down by command
Protocol: iSCSI operations per second broken down by offset
Protocol: iSCSI operations per second broken down by latency

Steps to Follow:

    1. In the BUI under the "Analytics -> Open Worksheets" page, use the "+" icon to add the above statistics, and save the worksheet with a meaningful name eg: 'iscsiperf'. Now close the worksheet and the datasets will continue to run in the background.
    2. After the problem has been observed
  • Open the saved worksheet
  • Synchronize all statistics
  • Pause the statistics, zoom in or out as appropriate, to cover the time of the problem as well as up to a certain extent of the normal performance.
  • Save and Close the worksheet
  • Highlight the worksheet and click the icon "Send a bundle including this worksheet", or use the following command to send out the bundle with worksheet
aksh> analytics worksheets select name=iscsiperf sendbundle
    3. Provide the name of the file which was uploaded, the date time and TZ of the problem to the support engineer.
