Goal
This documents describes how to setup the Netra CP3260 blade to boot from an external disk array.
Symptoms
- Netra CP3260 connects to external storage array via FC-ARTM
- The blade is to boot from the external storage array
Fix
Should a customers connect the CP3260 to external storage (via FC-ARTM to a SAN or NAS)
instead of using the HDD-ARTM, there is no other internal HDD.
It is necessary to boot from the external storage array. This documents describes how to setup the Netra CP3260 blade to boot from an external disk array.
Other blades (CP3060, CP3220, CP3250, CP3270) could follow a similar procedure.
These steps shows how to set up CP3260 to boot from external storage array. These commands are run in OBP at the ok prompt
Step 1 - ok " /pci@0/pci@0/pci@8/pci@0/pci@b/lpfc@0" select-dev
(get the exact lpfc device node from show-devs)
Step 2 - ok set-sfs-boot
Step 3 - ok wwpn 203400a0b83480d6 0 set-boot-id
(get the actual wwpn number from 'probe-scsi-all')
Step 4 - ok unselect-dev
Step 5 - ok reset-all
Step 6 - ok show-devs
(verify that path with emlx disk is present now)
Repeat steps 1-6 for the other device path
Next, check 'show-devs' output and make sure paths are now listed as the emlx
devices and the lpfc devices are gone
Lastly, install the OS now that the paths are correct (any previous OSinstall will have device link problems when you try to boot due to the changes)
After OS install, setup both boot paths.
If done correctly, the devices will look something like:
/pci@0/pci@0/pci@8/pci@0/pci@b/emlx@0/fp@0,0/sd@w203400a0b83480d6,0:a
Note in the above the emlx node name rather than lpfc and the WWN rather than the device number.
