GoalNew Drive Installation or Drive Replacement Process in SLxxxx libraries.When a new drive is installed (new installs into new slots ) it is important that the following process be used to avoid issues where the drive is not recognized by the switch due to two different WWN's in play in the drive. SolutionSteps to FollowTake the following actions when installing new or replacement tape drives: When the drive is first powered up it will login to the switch with the factory set WWN. After the drive communicates with the library, the WWN will be changed to a library generated dynamic WWN. When the drive tries to communicate with the switch with the dynamic WWN, the switch will not respond and vice versa. 1. Install the drive in the library slot. Ensure that the data path cable is disconnected from the drive at this time. 2. Bring up the drive and wait until the library status shows the drive status as green. 3. Plug in the data path cable to the drive. The drive should login to the switch with the dynamic WWN given to it by the library. Notes: This applies to 9x40 and T10K drives installed in libraries that use a dynamic WWN such as SL3000 and SL8500. Once this process is done the first time, the drive remembers the dynamic library WWN from that point forward for the life of that drive in that particular library slot.
