Goal

This document will explain the states that can be seen in Shadow Image, CCI and TrueCopy configurations. It will include what these states mean, volume permissions in each state and some examples of how to transition from one state to another.

COPY

In paired state, but initial copy, pairsplit, or resync operation is not complete.  Includes COPY(PD), COPY(SP) and COPY(RS) statuses below.

In paired state, but initial copy, pairsplit, or resync operation is not complete.  Includes COPY(PD), COPY(SP) and COPY(RS) statuses below.

Read/Write

Read only

COPY(PD)

(pending duplex)

Initial copy in progress.

Read/Write

Read only

COPY(SP)

(split pending)

When steady split mode is used for pairsplit.  All pvol updates prior to pairsplit command are copied.  When updates are complete, pvol and svol are identical to the pvol when split was issued.

Read/Write

Read only

COPY(RS)

(resync)

When a split pair is resynchronized in normal mode, only the Pvol differential data is copied to the Svol.  When PSUE pair is resync'd, the entire Pvol is copied to the Svol.

Read/Write

Read only

COPY(RS-R)

(resync-reverse)

When a split pair is resynchronized in reverse or quick restore mode (only the Svol differential data is copied to the Pvol).

Read only

RCPY

(reverse copy)

In paired state, but reverse resync operation is in progress.

PSUS

(split)

In paired state, but updates to the Svol data are suspended due to user-requested pairsplit.  The 99x0 keeps track of Pvol and Svol updates while the pair is split.

In paired state, but updates to the Svol data are suspended due to user-requested pairsplit.  The 99x0 keeps track of Pvol and Svol updates while the pair is split to allow for a faster resync.

Read/Write

Read only

Read/Write when using write enable pairsplit option.

PSUS(SP)

(quick split pending)

Means quick split mode is selected.  Only pvol differential data is copied to the svol in the background. Pairs in this state cannot be deleted

Read/Write

Read/Write

PSUE or PFUS

(suspended)

In paired state, but updates to the Svol data are suspended due to an error condition.  The volumes in this condition are not synchronized.  PSUE is PSUS with due to an error condition.  PFUS is PSUS with reason of sidefile full.

In paired state, but updates to the Svol data are suspended due to an error condition.  When a PSUE pair is resynced, the 99x0 copies the entire Pvol to the Svol (same as initial copy).  The volumes in this condition are not synchronized.

Read/Write if no error occurs in the pvol

Read only

PDUB

Used for TrueCopy LUSE pairs only.  In paired state, but updates to one or more ldevs within the LUSE pair is SMPL or PSUE (due to some error condition).

*1 Right click on the selected LU(s)/pair(s) in the TrueCopy 'Pair Operations' tab or the Shadow Image 'Main' tab to see the available operations.

*2 Select the Shadow Image or TrueCopy option from the RMC main window.  The available operations will be seen as buttons on the right hand side of the window.

*3 The -E option is for Shadow Image only and is not normally used.
