Goal

Does library send more than 6 characters of volser barcode to server?

Fix

Steps to Follow
Oracle/STK libraries only send 6 characters of the Volser label on the bus to the server.  This is working as designed. Engineering states there are NO plans to change how Volser is presented on Lxxx, Lxx, 97xx or L55/93x0 libraries.  These are legacy libraries and additional functionality is not being added according to program management.
Non Oracle/STK libraries support 8 character Volser numbers to the server.  Some customers have read that these libraries support 6 + 2 characters in the documentation.   This is in regards to internal library workings only where the library manages multiple types of media.   The last 2 characters designate the type of media inside the library.   This does not mean that the last 2 characters are presented on the bus.

The SL-Series libraries will support 6 + 2 characters.   Refer to 1014539.1 for further details.
