Reserved WWNs Used After the WWN on the SL8500.

Information on proper addressing:
As you can see from the "SL8500 WWN Usage.doc" below, the 16 WWNs are for use by the library. The architecture of the library allows for up to 8 fibre channel direct attach interfaces to be installed. This has not been implemented yet, but if it is, the fibre interfaces will require WWNNs and WWPNs.

Engineering has published a file of all known past and future WWN seeds to Sales Support. We get allocated WWNs to use in the libraries once a year, so we cannot assign WWN seeds longer into the future than our current allocation. The number in the list is the WWN seed in the library.

The WWN seed can be obtained from the SL8500 with the CLI "prom print" command. Unfortunately, the permissions for this command are "engineering only". Engineering has requested that these permissions change so that the service and advsrv account can use the command as part of the crimson requirements. No time frame has been provided as to when this will be available.

The library WWN cannot be obtained from SL Console as far as I can see. The best chance to determine the library WWN from the library is to obtain a drive WWN using SL Console, and calculate the library WWN using the "SL8500 WWN Usage.doc".

SL8500 WWN USAGE

The Seed WWN value is assigned to each library by manufacturing based on the Serial Number of the machine. The code usage of this is explained below!

For Example , with a seed value of 500104F00078CB0E the library code reserves the first 16 (10Hex) values for the Library Fibre interfaces, a possible 8 ports with a possible 8 nodes depending on the configuration. The HBT card (drive interface) is then given the drive dWWN base value of 500104F00078CB1E in this case!

The drive's WWN's are assigned by the Drive Bay Number, starting with drive bay 1 and ending with drive bay 64.

Example:

Drive Bay 1 Node Name 500104F00078CB1E

Drive Bay 1 Port A Name500104F00078CB1F

Drive Bay 1 Port B Name500104F00078CB20

Drive Bay 2 Node Name500104F00078CB21

Drive Bay 2 Port A Name500104F00078CB22

Drive Bay 2 Port B Name500104F00078CB23

----------------_ETC_-------------------

Drive Bay 64 Node Name500104F00078CBDB

Drive Bay 64 Port A Name500104F00078CBDC

Drive Bay 64 Port B Name500104F00078CBDD

DRIVE BAYS

Drive Bay 1 = 1,4,2,1,4

Drive Bay 2 = 1,4,1,1,4

Drive Bay 3 = 1,4,-1,1,4

Drive Bay 4 = 1,4,-2,1,4

Drive Bay 5 = 1,4,2,1,3

------ETC---------
