Goal

To describe what the BIOS Erratum 131 message means during boot up.

The following message can be seen during boot up on V40Z based VTL's:

"WARNING: BIOS microcode patch for AMD Athlon[TM] 64/Opteron[TM] processor erratum 131 was not detected; updating your system's BIOS to a version containing this microcode patch is HIGHLY recommended or erroneous system operation may occur"

Solution

Message can be safely ignored.

Description: The user sees the following message:

"WARNING: BIOS microcode patch for AMD Athlon(tm) 64/Opteron(tm) processor erratum 131 was not detected; updating your system's BIOS to a version containing this microcode patch is HIGHLY recommended or erroneous system operation may occur."

The BIOS needs to implement the new workaround for AMD Erratum 169 and should remove the workaround for AMD Erratum 131. As a result, the Erratum 131 message in the Solaris kernel should be removed.

Workaround: The Erratum 131 message can be safely ignored. The errata have been fixed as directed by AMD. The Erratum 131 warning message will be eliminated when the full coordinated errata 131 and 169 are addressed in Solaris 10, Update 4.

Erratum number 131 - 'Systems may deadlock waiting for a Probe Response'.'Under a highly specific and detailed set of internal timing conditions, the Northbridge System Request Queue may stall, and cause a watchdog timer timeout and system will deadlock'. It also mentions the system will hang or machine check in the erratum 169 message detail.
