Applies to:Sun Fire 12K ServerSun Fire 15K Server Sun Netra CP2140 Blade Server Sun Fire E20K Server Sun Fire E25K Server All Platforms GoalExplain the message "Loading PCI debug and information words:" upon SC CPU rebootSolutionOn the SCs (System Controller(s)) of Sun Fire[TM] F12K, F15K, E20K and E25K, and possibly other platforms, the following message may be emitted by the POST / OBP initialization sequence of the CP2140:SPARCengine CP2000 model 140 (UltraSPARC-IIi 648MHz), No Keyboard OpenBoot 4.0, 1024 MB memory installed, Serial #59472197. Ethernet address 0:3:ba:8b:79:45, Host ID: 838b7945. Loading PCI debug and information words: show-pci-addrs [starting-node-path] (default: /pci@1f,0) show-pci-config [device-path] (default: current device) show-pci-space [starting-node-path] (default: /pci@1f,0) There have been queries regarding the presence of the message starting with "Loading PCI debug and information words", where the message has been emitted on one SC and not on the other. There was concern that there was missing or added functionality on one SC, and not the other. The messages are emitted as a result of the 'banner+' dropin. Its purpose is to log these very messages, though it has no particular functionality of its own. The 'banner+' dropin originates from an older version of the OBP. If the CP2140 was initially flashed with an older revision of OBP, then flashed with a newer version, the 'banner+' would be present. As it happens, the usual process of reflashing the SC's does NOT remove existing dropins. The dropin itself is harmless, however, if the messages are causing problems in a logging systems, the 'banner+' dropin can be removed from the dropin list through the use of the "delete-dropin" dropin OBP command. From the ok prompt (with Solaris[TM] halted, or not yet started), run the command: delete-dropin banner+ and the 'banner+' dropin will be removed. A short series of messages about deleting the dropin, erasing flash, and reprogramming flash will ensue, and will take up to 2 minutes. After this point, the SC should be reset, using reset-all and from that point, the unwanted 'banner+' message should no longer be emitted. Internal Comments For internal Sun use only. It is understood that versions of OBP earlier than OBP version 1.1.10 contained the banner+ dropin. Newer versions, do not contain the 'banner+' dropin.
