Goal

Automatic Service Request (ASR) is a feature of the array management software that monitors the array system health and automatically notifies Oracle when critical events occur.  Critical alarms generate a Service Request. The notifications enable the Oracle  to respond faster and more accurately to critical on-site issues.

To discuss this information further with Oracle experts and industry peers, we encourage you to review, join or start a discussion in the My Oracle Support Community - Storage Disk 2000, 3000, 6000 RAID Arrays & JBODs Community

Fix

You enable ASR capability by using a Sun StorageTek[TM] Common Array Manager software feature, to register devices to participate in the ASR service.

ASR uses SSL security and leverages My Oracle Support account credentials to authenticate transactions. The service levels are based on contract level and response times of the connected devices.

ASR is available to all customers with a current hardware Warranty or Premium Support contracts. The service runs continuously from activation until the end of warranty or contract period.

Instructions can be found on pages 287 through 290 of the Common Array Manager 6.9 Administration guide.

IMPORTANT:  Make sure that if you are upgrading to CAM 6.9 from a previous release that you disable ASR, then reactivate it.  The configuration of ASR has changed with 6.9.  See the 6.9 Release notes page 18:

Enabling the ASR Service:

Instructions can be found on pages 287 through 290 of the Common Array Manager 6.9 Administration Guide.

Older versions of CAM use different DNS names (Sun versus Oracle).  The DNS names are honored to incorporate legacy traffic, however the IP addresses may have changed.  Additionally, your Sun Online account credentials will be honored until the array is re-registered against that CAM instance managing ASR traffic.

CAM 6.9 uses a new DTS interface which is why you must disable ASR prior to upgrade.

The DNS names have shifted to new oracle addresses, so firewalls and proxies should be updated.  See the 6.9 Administration Guide.

Problems with ASR beyond the actual connection and activation are handled
by the ASR team. These are the same people that manage the SAMS database.

For troubleshooting connection of ASR to the SAMS database, make sure the customer
meets the requirements above. For additional diagnostics, CAM offers a debugcommand line for this issue(the -D option turns on debugging to the console):

Windows: %Program Files%\Sun\Common Array Manager\Components\fms\bin\register.bat -D

Solaris: /opt/SUNWsefms/bin/register -D

Linux: /opt/fms/bin/register -D

They all take the same options:
Usage: register  [-u user, --user=user] [-p password, --password=password]  [-H proxyHost, --proxy Host=proxyHost] [-P proxyPort, --proxyPort=proxyPort] [-U proxyUser, --proxyUser=proxyUser] [-a proxyPassword, --proxyPassword=proxyPassword] [-e enable, --enable=enable] [-d disable, --disable=disable] [-c, --clear] [-x xfer, --xfer=xfer]

-u user, --user=MOS SSO

-p password, --password= SSO password

-H proxyHost, --proxyHost=proxyHost

-P proxyPort, --proxyPort=proxyPort

-U proxyUser, --proxyUser=proxyUser

-a proxyPassword, --proxyPassword=proxyPassword

-e enable, --enable=enable

Enable a sun connection service. Available service .
