Description
This document contains information on the following tasks which are useful when troubleshooting a system.


Steps to Follow
When troubleshooting a system:

Using a USB keyboard for input and setting system boot to stop on error.

Power system on

Select F2 for Setup during boot process

From within the setup menu select

Advanced

Peripheral Config

Legacy USB Support

Change the setting for this to AUTO.

Then select SERVER,

POST Error Pause and

change the setting to ENABLED.

Then select EXIT and SAVE CHANGES.

Running Diagnostics 

Insert the DIAG CD and boot the system.

At the main menu select SYSTEM UTILITIES

(this takes a long time to load into the RAM disk and via serial

console you get no indication for a while whereas when

using a monitor/keyboard you get more information as it loads).

Then select PLATFORM CONFIDENCE TEST and QUICK TEST.

All errors and messages are logged to the System Event Log (SEL) manager, not to the screen.

See below for details on how to view the SEL.

Clear CMOS Procedure

Fi ve steps are required to reset the CMOS through the buttons on the front panel:

Saving the System Event Log to a File and Viewing Saved Files

Boot either the DIAG cd or from the DISG partition if installed.

Select system utilities and then system setup utility. (if running from a serial console and booting from CD, it appears to hang as it loads everything into a RAM disk)

To view the SEL:

Saving the System Logs (SEL,SDR etc) to hard-disk or floppy

Boot either DIAG CD or from DIAG partition if installed.

Select system utilities and then system setup utility . (if running from a serial console and booting from CD, it appears to hang as it loads everything into a RAM disk)

Select one of

Type Ctrl - F then save-as then type in the filename and select which drive to save to.     Eg  a: floppy c: hard drive
