Goal
Description:
There is an incompatibility between the shipping BIOS version (BIOS 36) for Sun Fire[TM]
X4100 / X4200 and the LSI internal disk controller firmware.
Shipping systems with BIOS 36 and without LSI firmware 1.10.0 and LSI BIOS 6.06.06A will lead to an error when trying to use the LSI configuration utility during boot.
This shipping BIOS revision can be found on the software 1.2.1 media release.
This incompatibility will cause the LSI MPT BIOS to be inoperable and prevent access to the hardware RAID utility.
Symptoms:
The platform may experience a reset after attempting to access the LSI configuration utility.
The platform may experience a memory error message during boot such as:
- "configuration utility text strings image memory error"
- "option ROM space exhausted"
The error may differ depending on PCI configuration and option cards installed.
Fix
Resolution:
Press <CTRL><C> to enter the LSI setup utility after power-on.
The the platform exhibits the symptoms described above, perform the following steps:
Download software version 1.3 from the following location:
https://updates.oracle.com/Orion/Services/download/p10335305_130_Generic.zip?aru=13177413&patch_file=p10335305_130_Generic.zip
Update the firmware using this media.
This media will deliver the following firmware updates:
- BIOS 39 (0ABGA039)
- LSI MPT SAS Firmware 1.16.00
- MPT BIOS 6.10.00B
Alternatively, download the latest revision of the Sun Fire [TM] X4100 / X4200 software supplement CD which will also not exhibit the problem.
