Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1003932.1 : Physical device mapping for PCI-X I/O Boards (Sun Fire[TM] 4800, E4900, 6800, E6900) and PCI-X IB_SSC (Sun Fire[TM] v1280, E2900 and Sun Netra[TM] 1280, 1290).
PreviouslyPublishedAs 205509 Applies to:Sun Fire 6800 Server - Version All Versions and laterSun Fire E2900 Server - Version All Versions and later Sun Fire E4900 Server - Version All Versions and later Sun Fire E6900 Server - Version All Versions and later Sun Netra 1280 Server - Version All Versions and later All Platforms GoalThe document describes the physical IO device mapping for the Midrange Servers' (Sun Fire[TM] 4800, E4900, 6800, E6900, V1280, E2900) PCI-X IO Assembly and the Sun Netra[TM] 12x0 Servers' PCI-X IB_SSC Assembly. This will be useful while decoding Solaris[TM]/OBP device-paths to their physical device slot. Fix
Sun Fire[TM] 4800, E4900, 6800, and E6900 PCI-X I/O Layout:
where "xx" in column Device Path Address is the AID (XMITS Agent ID). See example below to understand a typical device path in Solaris/OBP : /ssm@0,0/pci@1e,700000/pci@1/network@1" ^ ^^ ^ ^ Node Id __________| | | |________ PCI Device # | | AID |________Bus/Leaf # (A=600000 or B=700000) To locate IO board number, divide AID by 2 and subtract 6. Note that the AID is in HEX. The result tells us that the device resides on I/O boat in slot 9 (IB9). The even numbered AID indicates XMITS0 (whereas an odd number AID would indicate XMITS1), "700000" indicates leaf B and PCI device # 1 indicates that this is PCI slot 0 in IB9. Note :
Sun Fire[TM] V1280, E2900 PCI-X IB_SSC Assembly Layout:
[u] SBBC [v] DVD-R [w] LSI1030 2x Internal SCSI Disks (Ultra320) + DAT [x] LSI1030 External SCSI (Ultra320) [y] ce0 [z] ce1 Note :
+---------+ | |----> 2x146GB HDD +----+ LSI1030 | | | |----> DAT | +---------+ | +---------+ 66Mhz | | | 33Mhz XMITS0 ---------- Bus B (700000)----------+----| Bridge +-----+--> SBBC | | Chip | | | +---------+ +--> DVD | +---------------> 2xEthernet ports (ce0 and ce1) The slower devices such as the SBBC (Serengeti BootBus Controller ASIC) and DVD drive is isolated behind a Bridge Chip, so as to not pull the entire bus down to 33Mhz.
