Purpose

Error Message: Triply Redundant Vlun Migration Required

This message may be received as an Administrator Email Alert if alerts with a level of "Warning" Events are configured.  This is an Event that will also cause an automatic Callhome to the Pillar Support Center if callhomes are enabled.

Scope

Hardware and Software Versions

Axiom 300, Axiom 500 Release 3.3

Details

This Event and Alert is generated when an Axiom 500 or 300 is upgraded to Release 3.3.0 or higher if there are any LUNs or File Systems configured as Triple Redundancy.  The Event will also be generated if the Axiom Pilot restarts or the Axiom system is restarted.

Verification

Check the Event Log for the details of the event.  The event details should give the name of the LUN or File System that is configured as triple redundancy.

Solution/Workaround

AxiomONE Release 3.0 and higher did not allow creation of new Triple Redundant File Systems or LUNs, but would allow pre-existing triple resources to be upgraded to Release 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2.    Release 3.3 provides this warning to prepare for future software releases.

Change the QoS of the File System or LUN to Double or Standard Redundancy and make sure the "Temporary" flag is not checked.   This will initiate a QoS physical migration of the File System or LUN to the selected redundancy.

NOTES:

The migration will require additional storage space equal to the size needed for the new QoS redundancy.  The migration will allocate the space for the new redundancy QoS and migrate the data into that space. The migration will not release the storage space currently used by the triple redundant resource until the migration is complete.  If this is the first R3.x release installed on the Axiom, the migration will not be allowed immediately after the upgrade until the Brick Zero storage initialization has completed.
Release 3.x provides RAID 10 and Double Redundancy for File Systems or LUNs where simple Double Redundancy is not deemed sufficient.
