Note: No other operating system versions are supported on an Exalogic system, and without the unique software, firmware and device drivers incorporated into these Exalogic "base images" the Exalogic X2-2 hardware is unusable.

Oracle Softwares Optimized on Exalogic Systems

Following Oracle Softwares have been optimized to yield maximum performance on the engineered system.

  • WebLogic 10.3.4 and above
  • JRockit R28.1 and above
  • Coherence 3.6.1 and above
  • Tuxedo 11.1.1.3.0 and above

Other Oracle Products Certification and/or Supportability for Deployment on Exalogic Systems

Oracle software products that are certified on 64-bit OEL 5.5+ and Solaris 11 Express will be supported. Non-Java Applications or Java applications that do not use the optimized Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud software will not benefit from the performance or reliability features and enhancements provided by the Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud software, but they will benefit from the performance and reliability intrinsic to the Exalogic hardware and the Infiniband networking between compute nodes.

Refer to Oracle Fusion Middleware Supported System Configurations for more information on list of products that are supported/certified on Oracle Linux 5.5+ and Solaris 11 Express

Also refer to Doc ID 1302529.1 which has list of Oracle Certified Applicatioons on Exalogic.

Supported Features with Oracle Solaris 11 Express on the Exalogic X2-2 Hardware

Follow are supported Solaris 11 Express features on Exalogic X2-2 Hardware.

  • SDP, for applications that have been configured to use it.
  • IPoIB and EoIB support for applications.
  • One IB partition for the switch fabric.
  • Solaris Zones, for most Solaris applications.
  • Solaris 10 Zones on a Solaris 11 Express system, Specifically for certification of applications which will run in Solaris 10 but will not run in Solaris 11 Express.
  • Access to IPoIB and EoIB datalinks for communication between compute nodes.
  • IPoIB payloads are limited to 64KB payloads (MTU).
  • EoIB payloads are limited to 1500B payloads (MTU), and must be on the same VLAN.
  • Access to EoIB datalinks for communication outside of the IB switch fabric.
  • Virtual IPoIB datalinks (called "parts") for communication between compute nodes.
  • VLAN datalinks on EoIB (but all will use the same fabric partition)
  • Oracle Fusion Middleware software portfolio, including WebLogic Server 10.3.4+,Coherence 3.6.0.4+ and HotSpot (6u23) and above.

Using SSL/TLS protocols for LDAP service Supportability in Exalogic

Using SSL/TLS protocols for LDAP service is currently not supported in Exalogic.

32-bit Mode Supportability on Exalogic

  • Running 32-bit Applications on Exalogic:

Any Oracle application that is certified for Oracle Linux 5.5 64-bit or Solaris 11 Express (including Solaris 10 containers) is certified *automatically* for Exalogic. If such application can run in a 32-bit compatibility mode, then it can run on Exalogic as well. Bear in mind, not all 32-bit applications will run,  you need to check for each application in question.
  • Using 32-bit WebLogic Installer/32-bit JVM on Exalogic:

Neither a 32-bit WebLogic Installer nor a 32- bit JVM is supported on Exalogic. Refer to Certification Matrix for complete list of certified platforms. If a generic WebLogic Installer is used ( e.g. on Solaris) for installation, you will have to use the -d64 flag during installing to install WebLogic in 64-bit mode.

OVM and VMWare Virtualization Support on Exalogic

An optimized release of Oracle VM 3.0.3 is now supported in EECS (Exalogic Elastic Cloud Software) 2.0.1.1.0 (and in EECS 2.0.1.0.0). For more information refer to the Virtualization and Infrastructure-as-a-Service section in Exalogic FAQs MOS Note 1374890.1 .VMWare is not supported on Exalogic.

Exalogic Machine OOTB Customization or after-market modification supportability

The Exalogic hardware is a carefully balanced, tuned and tested system. It will not be possible for customers to alter the configurations or substitute components except through a formal field upgrade performed by Oracle. This includes adding or removing memory, changing disks, altering the physical configuration of the I/O fabric or internal management network.

Oracle Lifetime Support Policy information.

Oracle Support Organization announced a new Lifetime Support Policy that provides the release and support dates for the Sun Hardware, Operating System, and Sun Software Support products (under the Server and Storage Systems portfolio) and Oracle Fusion Middleware Products. EECS follows Oracle standard support policy (5 years for Premier Support and 3 years for Extended support), it will be updated shortly in the in Oracle Fusion Middleware Support Policy Brochure.

In addition also refer to below Oracle Lifetime Support Policy documentation which provies lifetime support policy for Oracle and Sun System Software & various Oracle Applications.
Oracle Lifetime Support Policy: Oracle and Sun System Software
Oracle Lifetime Support Policy: Oracle Applications
