Purpose

This lists an example of PLX FW installation.

T2 Server PLX Firmware Installation Example

The PLX firmware is low level firmware which is unaffected by system firmware updates or Solaris OS updates so only needs to be loaded once.  To install, transfer the zip file to the system to be updated and unzip.  Be sure the system is displayed via 'iostat -En', and also confirm that the DVD drive is a SATA drive:

  # iostat -En
c0t0d0           Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0
Vendor: TEAC     Product: DV-W28SS-R       Revision: 1.0C Serial No:
  Size: 3.87GB <3869573120 bytes>
Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0
Illegal Request: 0 Predictive Failure Analysis: 0

Next, ensure that the DVD is inactive & all USB devices are removed.  Its best to remove any DVD media to ensure its inactive.  Note your existing firmware version by executing the update utility with no options:

  # ./oxfd_update.sparc
  Oxford Firmware Updater version 0.4
  Currently Running 12:37:37 Jul 20 2011 (v 1.00.000e) firmware

Update the firmware if this version is prior v1.00.0010, by the following command:

  # ./oxfd_update.sparc -f v1.00.0010.bin

  Oxford Firmware Updater version 0.4

   Currently Running 15:09:37 Oct 30 2009 (v 1.00.000e) firmware
  ERROR: from reset device -5
Programming firmware PASSED: Firmware updated from file v1.00.0010.bin

Note that if viewing the console, it is normal to see a number of online messages followed by a number of off line messages as the controller resets itself.  Please ignore the device -5 & Device is gone errors.

Once the update completes the new version is installed.  To verify:

  # ./oxfd_update.sparc
  Oxford Firmware Updater version 0.4
  Currently Running 12:37:37 Jul 20 2011 (v 1.00.0010) firmware
