  • X4170 M3 & X4270 M3
    • Two CPU socket systems
      • Intel Xeon E5-2609 4-core 2.4 GHz
        • 80W, DDR3-1066, 6.4 GT/s QPI, 10 MB cache
      • Intel Xeon E5-2640 6-core 2.4 GHz
        • 95W, DDR3-1333, 7.2 GT/s, 15 MB cache
      • Intel Xeon E5-2660 8-core 2.2 GHz
        • 95W, DDR3-1600, 8.0 GT/s, 20 MB cache
      • Intel Xeon E5-2690 8-core 2.9 GHz
        • 135W, DDR3-1600, 8.0 GT/s QPI, 20 MB cache

Memory:

  • Memory controller integrated into the Intel "Sandy Bridge" CPU
  • three DIMM sizes
    • 8 GB DDR3-1600 (1.35V, dual-rank)
    • 16 GB DDR3-1600 (1.35V, dual-rank)
    • 32 GB DDR3-1066 (1.35V, quad-rank)  * supported in X4270M3 post-RR
  • X4170 M3 and X4270 M3 servers
    • up to 16 DDR3-1600 RDIMMs (8 DIMM slots per CPU)
    • 512 GB DRAM maximum using 32 GB DIMMs  * supported in X4270M3 post-RR
  • Basic DIMM population rules (see Service manual for expanded/detailed rules and Examples)
    • A single DIMM configuration for a processor is supported
    • Do not populate DIMM slots next to empty CPU sockets
      • All shipping configurations will always have all CPU sockets populated
    • When using memory of mixed sizes install the DIMMs from largest to smallest
    • DIMMs are populated starting with D0 of processor 0 and alternating between P0 and P1 (fill all blue slots then white slots)

 PCI:

  • PCIe controller integrated in Intel Sandy Bridge CPU
  • X4170 M3
    • 4x PCIe Gen3 (8.0 GT/s) slots
      • Slot 1- x16
      • Slots 2 & 3 - x8
      • Slot 4 - x8 Internal slot dedicated to SAS controller for internal storage (physically located beneath slot 3)
  • X4270 M3
    • 6x PCIe Gen3 (8.0 GT/s) slots
      • Slot 1- x16
      • Slots 2,3,4,5,6 - x8

Network:

  • 4x on-board 10Gb Ethernet ports
  • 100/1000/10000Mb/s (No 10Mb support - 100 Mb operation full-duplex only)
  • PXE boot supported on all 4 interfaces
  • ports numbered net0-3 from right to left (right-most port is 0)

Internal Storage:

  • Configurations that support DVD drives will have one populated (no option to leave it unpopulated with a filler)
    • DVD drive is a standard slim-line Serial ATA (SATA) DVD-ROM drive
    • Connected via standard SATA cable to one of the SATA host controllers on the system board
  • The Merrimack Family of Servers can utilize three different storage configurations for each of the 1RU and 2RU chassis
    • The 1RU X4170M3 server chassis supports three configurations
      • 4x 2.5" disks with DVD drive
      • 8x 2.5" disks - no optical drive
      • 4x 3.5" disks - no optical drive
    • The 2RU X4270M3 server chassis supports three configurations
      • 8x 2.5" disks with DVD drive
      • 24x 2.5" disks + 2x 2.5" rear drives - no optical drive
      • 12x 3.5" disks + 2x 2.5" rear drives - no optical drive
  • Merrimack Servers use one of two supported Host Bus Adapters for internal storage control
  • The HBA for internal storage in the X4170M3 systems takes PCIe slot 4 (internal only PCIe slot located physically beneath slot 3)
  • The HBA for internal storage in the X4270M3 systems takes PCIe slot 6
  • Supported Disks
