Description

After performing an update to the ZFS 7000 Storage Appliance Software 2011.1.1.0 release, Sun ZFS 7310C/7410C appliances with Cluster Controller 100 cards (PN: 371-3024-01) and 4x1Gb Copper Ethernet cards (PN: 375-3481-01) may be unable to rejoin the cluster.

Likelihood of Occurrence

This issue can occur on the following platforms:

Sun ZFS 7000 Storage Appliance platforms:
  • Sun ZFS 7310C Storage Appliance
  • Sun ZFS 7410C Storage Appliance
with ZFS Storage Appliance Software 2011.1.1.0 release and one of the ethernet cards listed below (see Note 1.)

Notes:

1. This issue only occurs on the above systems with the following cards installed, and the system should not be updated to the 2011.1.1.0 release:
371-3024-01 Cluster Controller 100 (Fishworks CLUSTRON 100) card
375-3481-01 4x1Gb Copper Ethernet card
2. To determine the current Storage Appliance Software revision, run the following command:
7000:> maintenance system updates list
UPDATE  DATE  STATUS
[email protected],1-1.8  2011-12-21 22:32:50  current
3. The following command can be run prior to a software update from the Software CLI to determine if the system has the cards that can cause the issue. For example:
7410:> maintenance hardware select chassis-000 select slot show

Slots:
         LABEL  STATE  MANUFACTURER           MODEL
slot-000 PCIe 3 ok     Sun Microsystems, Inc. 4x1Gb Copper Ethernet
slot-001 PCIe 1 ok     Sun Microsystems, Inc. Dual 4x6Gb External SAS-2 HBA
slot-002 PCIe 5 ok     Sun Microsystems, Inc. Fishworks CLUSTRON 100
...

Possible Symptoms

On a system that has this issue, the following warning messages will be displayed on the system console during boot:
SunOS Release 5.11 Version ak/[email protected],1-1.8 64-bit
Copyright (c) 1983, 2010, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.
Configuring devices.
WARNING: Cannot register interrupt for 'pciex8086,10bc' device at IPL 7
because it conflicts with another device using the same vector 40 with
an IPL of 12. Reconfigure the conflicting devices to use different vectors.
WARNING: Sharing vectors: pci8086,1026 instance 4 and pciex8086,10bc instance 3
In addition, the system will not be able to rejoin the cluster, and the following message will be displayed continuously on the system console:
This appliance is part of an appliance cluster.
Please wait while cluster synchronization takes place.
Joining cluster ... /

Workaround or Resolution

If the above symptoms occur after an update to the Storage Appliance Software 2011.1.1.0 release, a rollback to the previous software release should be performed. For example:
7410:> maintenance system updates select [email protected],1-1.37 rollback
You have requested a rollback of the system software to an earlier version. To
complete the rollback of the system to this earlier version, the system will be
rebooted, and a snapshot of the system configuration at the time that image was
last running will be restored. This process will erase any system settings
applied since that time. Do you wish to reboot the system, proceed with
rollback, and erase all configuration changes made since you updated from this
software version?
Are you sure? (Y/N) Y
