Symptoms

T10000A Drives showing Warnings with RC6456 upon load/unload for some media.

RC 6456 means  : "The cartridge has reached the load limit."

From SL8500 event logs we can see below :

FSC38D2 in drive event log.

 

Cause

 T10000 Media wear warranty expiring.

Solution

RC 6456 means  : "The cartridge has reached the load limit."

Check Drive Event Logs and Drive Dumps to get further details on media in question.

For this case, from Drive Events FSC 38D2 was found indicating the media referred in SL8500 event logs has reached end of warranty.

NOTES :

The cartridge has reached 7200 full tape passes. Warranty ends at 7200 full tape passes.
End of life indication is reached at 14440 full tape passes.
This warning is issued so that very conservative users can plan for replacement of the cartridge.
