Pillar Axiom 600 Storage System - Version Not Applicable and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Ping does not respond from NFS client to Axiom FS and copy of large files from client to Axiom do not work when using aggregation and Jumbo frames.  Customer is running release 4.5.8, so anything 4.5.8 and below could potentially see this problem

Cause

The cause is in the TCP/IP stack and MTU is being miscaluculated in Axiom.

Solution

A fix is forthcoming in Axiom code, but a work around is to toggle the VLAN ID for the FS affected in GUI. Simply remove VLAN ID, click ok, then put VLAN id back and click ok. Now ping and copy of large files should work as expected. Doing this properly sets the MTU to 9000 on the Axiom in aggregated environments.

Note that the workaround will have to be re-applied if the Slammer Control Unit that owns the FileServer does a warmstart or a Failover/Failback.
