Applies to:

Sun StorageTek SL3000 Modular Library System - Version Not Applicable and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Symptom will be either one or both AEM will show "not installed" status and be non-functional.

The AEM will physically work with the jumper tests but will not come online to the controller.

Interrupting controller load by power cycling or rebooting will destroy the PUX cards.

Cause

Interrupting controller load by power cycling or rebooting

Solution

All AEMs ship with version 2.30 code on the PUX card.  When installing a subsystem with AEMs it is important to know that a "wait" condition will occur during the first power-up while the controller loads new code to the AEM PUX cards.

During initial power-ups, watch for the "wait" LED and act accordingly.  It is not believed opening the door will power down the PUX cards the way the Tall-Bots are powered down and may not affect the code upgrade but do not open it anyway.  See next entry for related information.

AEM Full Power Cycle Reset - It has been reported that sometimes an AEM needs to be reset due to some kind of installation problem or failure. Be aware that if more than a soft reboot from the SLConsole is desired,  opening the door will not power cycle the PUX cards and put them in the init-boot mode like the Tall-Bots. A full box power cycle would be required to hard reset the AEMs.
